a5c7b9f00b James Reece is an ambitious aide to the U.S. Ambassador in Paris, doing little jobs for the CIA and hoping to get into black ops. On the night he and his girlfriend, Caroline, become engaged, he's told to pick up Charlie Wax at Orly. Charlie is an unorthodox government employee - large, bald and bearded, foul-mouthed and eccentric. Charlie immediately takes James on a wild ride of murder and mayhem, through ethnic enclaves. As bodies pile up, the purpose remains opaque to James. Caroline, unhappy that James has been out of touch for a day, tells him to bring Charlie for dinner. Charlie can be charming - where will it lead? Does the chess-playing James have what it takes?

This movie was a lot better than I had originally expected. It is literally filled to the brim with action, gun-play, fight scenes, and comedy. James Reese is an aide to the U.S. Ambassador in France, and he also has a side joba low-level operative for the CIA. When Reese gets his first assignment, he is forced to work with Charlie Wax. (I absolutely loved John Travolta's performancethe character of Wax, because he's funny, and a new style of a loose cannon action hero) Reese and Wax must stop a suicide bomber from killing everyone at a summit. If you love action and suspense, I highly recommend FROM Paris WITH LOVE!!!
When A friend of mine put this movie in i didn't recognize the title at all, which is mostly a bad sign if you keep half an eye on the market and this one has John Travolta in it. But who am I to judge?<br/><br/>From the first 15 minutes i didn't know where to put the movie and how it will develop further on i also predicted some kind of: that CIA Rookie is gonna get in big fat trouble, his GF gonna be held ransom etc etc. But i got it totally wrong. When we get to meet John Travolta alias the bald Motherf****r who doesn't give a f***, we also get the first cliché thrown at us, French Airport Police sucks and are all morons who need to be put in place. The irony would be that an American citizen complains about the security system in french airports while the U.S. has the most ridiculous Saftety Checks in the whole wide world making it a dreading horror for every half brown colored dude to enter the U.S.<br/><br/>The movie goes on and on, the rookie complaining about unorthodox measures Knox (JT) takes, e.g. killing every foreigner who has no important role (like leading them to the hideout to kill him none the less, an old guy serving tea or to do it with Knox). Every of those Chinese/Pakistan/Arabics seem to have an Uzi under his belt and Cocaine is raining from the ceiling. God Bless America! Between the massacres the movie has some light moments and absurd dialogs (but funny) between the two of them but not really enough to make you like Knox any more. At this point I called out that the rookie would sure have to battle his bat s*** crazy partner later on in a good showdown (maybe some chess included) but i was wrong again and the movie took the easy way out, America is threatened to be blown up by suicide bombers wherever they leave the US, not even Love can conquer that America hate and so our Rookie has to rightful duty to kill his girlfriend, boom Headshot, but no hurt feelings, a second later he is already joking with his old pal Knoxy. The End killed it for me, I thoughts: "Wow, 5 Min Showdown and the movie is over no sudden story turn, he kills her and thats it and gets promised a promotion" <br/><br/>The Action Scenes were good, but i can't overlook the huge logic flaws and the constant cliché dishing out. Just to name some:Bomb Warning reaching the embassy no one cares the same goes for the female U.S. diplomat (hell shes drives past a burning car wreck and get told of terrorists are at the conference yet she gets mad for the delay and wants somebody's head) Why the girlfriend didn't just plain fake an ID for the conference but instead had to live a long time with that guy pretending to fall in love, why the surveillance stuff in his apartment? Why didn't they get wind of his CIA linking? Where did Knox get all his information from, he seems to know every time what will happen next In what country its OK to kill near hundred citizens without being questioned or taken into custody? Why he had to smuggle a gun into the country when every car he enters is stacked with them, heck even a RPG is lying at hand. - Why is the cocaine stuffed into the ceiling, why would a drug dealer do that? - Why is the Pakistan killing himself with the gun of the rookie? <br/><br/>Quintessence: USA good , Rest of the world hates USA for it and wants to kill them, women cant be trusted and are easily lured into Muslim beliefs. CIA investigation is mostly killing dudes and blowing stuff up. Saving French Cops from Booby traps is not the way of a CIA Agent for they would only ask stupid questions about all the dead guys. In they eat a Burger and laugh theiroff how good everything went.<br/><br/>The story had many opportunities to take an interesting course and would have been way more appealing if the good guy had taken his girlfriends side and they had to escape that bad ass or if they had Knox turn evil and let the rookie hunt him down… so many wasted potential.
I hasten to say this is not criticism of John Travolta. He succeeds in this movie by essentially acting in a movie of his own.
